Next time you go to Outback, IHOP, Applebees, Chilis and all the other popular resaurants...think about this.

Indulge. Go ahead. You’re here, aren’t you? The problem with this advice is that Americans today eat out more than four times per week, and when it comes to gauging the nutrition of these meals, we are demonstrably ill equipped for the task. The point is that it’s easier to bite off more than you think you’re chewing. Some of the meals on this list can skyrocket your day’s caloric intake 1,500 calories beyond what you should be eating. Do that just once a week and you’re facing 22 extra pounds of flab in a year’s time. Use our guide to make better choices, and start learning how you can still enjoy the foods you love—but lose weight, too.

Worst Sit-Down Dessert: Outback Steakhouse Chocolate Thunder from Down Under with 1,911 calories and 88 g saturated fat.

Remember, a "recommended" daily allowance for fat grams is about 65 and calories is about 2,000. This is for an average person who is classified as "fit". Obviously it varies for hard corps athletes, people with health conditions, etc.

I have personally had the Applebee’s Quesadilla Burger and Chili's Buffalo Chicken Crisper Bites and I'm thinking about going on another run today out of guilt. Of course this was the type of meal I eat few and far between, like once a month. But yeah, makes me sick thinking about it now.

Looks like they have it in for The Cheesecake Factory. They're on that list, a lot...

Cheesecake factory is known for way oversized portions. I can't even finish most of their meals.

It's no secret that there is generally-speaking, absolutely nothing redeemable about the healthiness of chain restaurant food. If you want to eat remotely healthy, you need to find a restaurant that uses mostly fresh (aka: not frozen, preserved, processed, pasteurized, or chemically-messed-with) ingredients.

Guess that means I'm going to In-N-Out Burger more often!
All their ingrediants are fresh. The only thing they keep in the freezer is the ice cream for the shakes.

If you want to eat remotely healthy, stay the hell out of restaurants. There isn't a restaurant I can think of that serves correct portions of vegetables, meat and starch. The overdo the meat and WAAAY overdo the starch (it's cheap) and skimp on the veg.

I love vegies. If I go to, let's Outback, I get the smallest Filet, I think 6 oz and for my 2 sides, I get drouble broccoli.

This seems like a good place to bring this up again: Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

By "food" he means meals derived from whole food ingredients, as opposed to foodlike substances that line our supermarket shelves. Read The Omnivore's Dilemma and In Defense of Food for more details.

I have nothing wrong with eating in restaurants. Restaurant food, especially at large chain restaurants, is going to be shockingly unhealthy. I know that. So I adjust the frequency of my visits accordingly, and don't worry about it while I'm there.

If I ate McDonald's, Chili's, Olive Garden, etc. five times a week, it would be an issue. My 3-4 meals per year at McDonald's aren't really a big deal.

That's just impressive! How on Earth do they manage to put 90% of the average male's daily calorie intake in a salad?!?!

Blame the two different dressings, the shower of fried wonton strips, and the sewer cap–size plate. The avocado contributes a fair bit of the calories, with about 15% of a portion being fat.

I've seen that monster. It will feed 2 or 3 quite nicely.
