Tell me this, if you humans are so smart, why do they do drugs to make themselves feel better at the cost of their own health?

People tend to do things for pleasure at other people's expense. It's in our nature, but many people take it to the extreme. A person on drugs would go as far as to kill people for not getting more drugs, if you ask me thats pretty darned stupid.

I never said that people were smart. I merely asked whether the definition of stupidity remains constant, or is determined by external influences.

I wonder, as if in the "Time machine" by HG Wells humans are going to de-evolve with all of this technology that makes us lazy.

What do you mean, "you" humans?
But to answer your question, when somebody uses drugs, its usually a kind of "I'm not going to be addicted" thing, people tend to under-estimate their own will power and they yearn to feel good about themselves. Another thing is so that they're better at something they love, like cross country racing.
Its really complicated to explain, but life sucks and people want to find a way out of it.
Locally, I haven't heard anybody go to the extreme of taking another person's life, thats when somebody is heavy into Class A drugs and is in need of counseling because their minds have deteriorated and just aren't human anymore.

Ya, usually they think they are smart and powerful enough not to get addicted, then they end up joining gangs and killing people. I live near a gang infested area, and I see this kind of culture every day, and makes me want to puke.

In my opinion, humans are stupid. I could go on for days about why but I choose not to.

If humans are stupid, then who is intelligent. Stupidity cannot be defined unless there exists a standard of intelligence to compare it to.

You could try IQ levels?

After seeing that, only this comes to mind.

J.P.: All I've ever cared about was video games and they made me a millionaire. So maybe I don't know what the Civil War was, or who invented the helicopter even though I own one, but I did beat The Legend of Zelda before I could walk. I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

But before, you already said that humanity was stupid. You didn't say part of humanity, or people with a certain IQ level.

Look, I'm not going to argue on this. Humans have more intelligence than any species in the history of the planet, however, they have a very strong and frequent tendancy to ignore it or throw it away. Humans are just a bad race because of how they can't seem to keep up with their own technology advancing much faster than they are.

Well perhaps some of them are. You know the ones I like to quote.

Okay. I'll agree with you on that. However, do you think we could become a better race by keeping our tendency to develop technology in check? Also, could we become more rational if we attempted to, or are we as a species, doomed to eternal irrationality.

Well, we could start by not destroying our own planet. Also, we could not keep having 100,000s of babies a day to keep our population in check. Thats a start. For people to be rational they have to start thinking of things other than themselves.

I agree that there has been a massive improvement in protecting the environment in the last quarter century, but its going to take a lot more effort then we're putting in to put the environment back in the safe zone. I'm big on saving our planet, because its a beautiful planet and it's the only one we got (for the next 20-30 years).

Not destroying the planet is a good start. However, that brings us back to the question of new technology. I think we're going to have to keep moving forward, because people aren't rational enough to move back. We just have to change the direction that we're moving forward in.

Oh, and it might be difficult to get people to stop reproducing. Very difficult. :)

You're right about technology, as we can't say all of us have to go to our local Fry's electronics and trade in our intel processors for the first penium(spelling!) chip. Point being, we can't make a U-turn, we just have to turn onto another road.

And about reproducing, yes it would be extremely difficult, so the only real way to end overpopulation would be to expand into outer space, similiar to the MS Gundam series...

The real question is "Can you answer it rationally?" ;)

A long, long time ago, in a land very close to here, we were a very primitive species. We hunted, we gathered. We did not farm. We did not vote. We did not flush. We're still the exact same humans, but with new constructs, opportunities, and education that have piled up along the way. That being said, if someone is an idiot, and not hurting you with their idiocy, they actually giving you the advantage! Now go be nice so that you can wring every bit of what they have to contribute out of them: whether it be a good word in a job application, brute labor, or a ride to CAP if your car is down. In return, contribute your amazing wisdom and friendship in a non-arrogant way, and help these idiots become as intelligent as you.

It's not a problem as long as you have something to say. It's just the "Me too" and "Ditto" thread revivals that are a problem. We welcome anyone who has something new to say.

Oh, by the way, welcome to CadetStuff. :)
